Steven R. Hendrick, M.D. Director of The Bariatric Surgery Center
After graduating from Hope College with honors, Dr. Hendrick attended Wayne State University School of Medicine and graduated with distinction in Bio-Medical Research. He completed his general surgery residency at St. John Hospital & Medical Center, Detroit, where he served as Chief Resident. He is board-certified, a Diplomat of The American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgeons.
Dr. Hendrick has performed nearly 1,000 bariatric surgeries with outcomes better than the national average and is committed to making sure his patients are successful in this life changing endeavor.
Robbie Gilbert, R.N., B.S.N. Bariatric Program Manager
Robbie Gilbert has extensive, varied experience as a registered nurse for more than 30 years. She received her nursing degree at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, and her Bachelor's degree from the University of Detroit. Robbie has a broad range of experience in inpatient and outpatient nursing, operations management, patient education, quality improvement and customer satisfaction. She works closely with our bariatric patients to help them achieve success.
Rachel L. Roberts, R.D. Nutritional Counselor
Rachel Roberts received a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from Western Michigan University and completed her internship at Eastern Michigan University, and now has several years of experience working as a bariatric dietitian. She supervises the nutritional aspects of patient care through nutritional assessments, planning, education and counseling to pre- and post-operative patients.
LaDon Richard Certified Medical Assistant
LaDon Richard is an certified medical assistant with over 20 years experience. She completed her M.A. certification at Ross Medical Center, and also holds an Associate's degree in Health Care Administration from Phoenix University. LaDon assists the surgeon with caring for patients' pre- and post-op medical needs.
LaKisha Bender assists patients with insurance verification. She has many years of experience in this role, is compassionate and caring, and will work to ensure that prospective patients clearly understand the application and verification processes.
