Obesity is a global epidemic that affects approximately 25 percent of the industrialized world. Unfortunately, it is more prevalent in the United States. Approximately 64 percent of Americans or 127 million people in the United States are overweight and 20 million people are morbidly obese. If you're one of the people interested in reaching your weight loss goals through bariatric surgery, you are not alone.
We understand that you have tried multiple diets, exercise programs and supplements that are often filled with false promises or disappointing results that may have lead to potentially more weight gain. It is known that people that are obese have a 22 percent shorter life expectancy secondary to medical problems that are related to being overweight such as diabetes, high blood pressure and respiratory disease. In fact, obesity related illnesses cause approximately 400,000 deaths in the United States each year, second only to smoking related deaths. The U.S. Surgeon General has concluded that the only effective and permanent means for significant weight loss is bariatric surgery.
At The Bariatric Surgery Center, we offer hope for those people who are obese and have tried to lose weight with no success. We have multiple options to assist you in obtaining your goal. Bariatric surgery is for patients who are more than 100 lbs. over their ideal body weight or have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or greater or patients with a BMI of 35 or greater who have associated weight related illnesses may qualify.
